Meet our Teachers

Miss Jackie

Hi! My name is Jackie DeMaio and I can't wait to join the In Step family! I started dancing at the age of 2 and continued taking classes until I was 18. I competed in Hip Hop during my high school career and was given the opportunity to take Hip Hop classes at Glastonbury Dance Center, the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts, and through the University of Delaware's dance minor program. Along with taking classes, I choreographed for a variety of musicals, show choirs, and dance classes beginning when I was 15 and continuing today! In addition to working at In Step, I teach Hip Hop and Musical Theatre at Glastonbury Dance Center, choreograph for the Glastonbury High School Drama Club, and direct over 150 students ages 7-18 in the Glastonbury Youth and Family Services musical every summer. When I'm not teaching dance and theater, you can often find me performing with a variety of community theaters across Connecticut (I'm currently working on Bright Star with the Opera House Players in Enfield).

 Miss Erica

Erica Deane has been dancing since the age of 6, and has never stopped. Along with regular training in Portland, CT, she made trips to Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway in NYC to further her dance training. She earned her BS in mathematics and an elementary education certification from Central Connecticut State University. She was able to continue studying dance by taking classes at Central and was part of their performance team. Erica frequently attends master classes, seminars, and workshops around the Northeast to always continue learning. Most recently, Erica earned her Acrobatic Arts Module 1 certification. In addition to teaching, she choreographs musicals, including Once On This Island for John Winthrop Middle School in Deep River, CT. Erica has been teaching at In Step since 2014 and loves working with the dancers each year.

Miss Jen

Hi! I am Jen Hughes and my love of dance started early!! At 3 I began taking classes Miss Patricia's Academy of Dance and The Dancers Workshop of Southington, both run by Patricia Boncal Sewerd. Over the 20 years I studied, I took tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, hip hop and dance theater. I auditioned and landed roles as Anastasia the wicked stepsister in our production of Cinderella, Atina (Ariel's sister) in The Little Mermaid and Mrs. Gulch in The Wizard of Oz  and other supporting roles through the years. At the age of 16 I was promoted from Assistant Teacher of the Tiny Tot (3-7 years olds) Program to Teacher and have been teaching ever since. My favorite part of teaching is instilling my absolute love of dance and movement in my students, and watching them grow each year!!

 Miss Candice

Hi! My name is Candice Cori and I have been dancing every day since I could walk, and began formally studying dance at the age of 3. For 15 years, I studied jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, pointe, and gymnastics in my hometown in Saugus, Massachusetts at Sandra's School of Dance under the direction of several dedicated and talented members of the Dance Teacher's Club of Boston (DTCB). I continued my dance education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Early Education. In 2005, I began instructing dance classes for children ages 3-10 in the Greater Cincinnati area for the Webby Dance Company.  I have been sharing my passion for dance (everything from first position all the way to the stage!) with dancers of all ages at In Step Dance Studio since 2009.  You can also find me leading a weekly Group Fitness Hip Hop Dance program at the Middlesex YMCA.  It's no secret that Jazz is my favorite, but there is no style of dance I won't try!
