Meet our Teachers
Miss Erica
Erica Deane has been dancing since the age of 6, and has never stopped. Along with regular training in Portland, CT, she made trips to Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway in NYC to further her dance training. She earned her BS in mathematics and an elementary education certification from Central Connecticut State University. She was able to continue studying dance by taking classes at Central and was part of their performance team. Erica frequently attends master classes, seminars, and workshops around the Northeast to always continue learning. Most recently, Erica earned her Acrobatic Arts Module 1 certification. In addition to teaching, she choreographs musicals, including Once On This Island for John Winthrop Middle School in Deep River, CT. Erica has been teaching at In Step since 2014 and loves working with the dancers each year.
Miss Jen
Hi! I am Jen Hughes and my love of dance started early!! At 3 I began taking classes Miss Patricia's Academy of Dance and The Dancers Workshop of Southington, both run by Patricia Boncal Sewerd. Over the 20 years I studied, I took tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, hip hop and dance theater. I auditioned and landed roles as Anastasia the wicked stepsister in our production of Cinderella, Atina (Ariel's sister) in The Little Mermaid and Mrs. Gulch in The Wizard of Oz and other supporting roles through the years. At the age of 16 I was promoted from Assistant Teacher of the Tiny Tot (3-7 years olds) Program to Teacher and have been teaching ever since. My favorite part of teaching is instilling my absolute love of dance and movement in my students, and watching them grow each year!!
